REGISTERING CATAPULT AND THE 7.0 PLUS UTILITIES
====================================================
Catapult is not free. Sites using this software MUST register it by
sending a few dollars to the author. Or you can consider the following.
7.0 PLUS Utilities is a package of all (more than 25) System 7.0 utilities
I have written. You can get the disk with all of them NOW (not wait until
I decide to upload the next program) by sending $29.95 to me. This will
register you for all the software, will get you a disk of the software, and
an update to the PLUS Utilities when it rolls around. It’s a pretty good
deal. You should register your software, anyway, so why not do it
like this? And it’s a lot cheaper this way.
See the documentation which should accompany this file for more information
on the 7.0 PLUS Utilities. A registration form should also accompany this file.
Please use it to register the software.
USING CATAPULT
====================
• If you use Catapult, please please please send me a note. My addresses
(post and e-mail) are given below in “About the Author”. Also, read the
information in the above section on registration.
What Does Catapult Do?
---------------------------
• Catapult, a drag-and-drop utility (Drop Rob-Box), is a method of launching
applications with drag-and-drop support while helping to keep your desktop
clean. Drop documents over the Catapult icon and select the application to
launch from the get file dialog. The documents will then be opened by the
application you have selected (if that application allows it). Allows you to
try opening files of a type not normally openable by the target application.
Using Catapult
-------------------
• Drag sets of files, folders, or disks into the application, “Drop Box-
style”. Catapult will then allow you to select an application which will
open the selected items. Drop Boxes require Apple Events, and thus
System 7.0 or higher.
• Double-click on Catapult to see the about box information.
• If you drop an alias directly into Catapult (i.e. the a folder containing
the alias is not dropped over the application’s icon in the Finder), the
alias will be resolved automatically.
• Catapult can launch programs and aliases to programs. Disks, folders,
and files can be sent as documents to those applications.
• Catapult does not check the type of the file you are opening with the
selected application. That is left up to the target program. So in some
cases you may be able to open improperly-typed files with your
applications.
• To clean up desktop clutter caused by all the Drop Rob-Boxes (and other
applications and aliases which support "dropping" (Most programs that open
documents nowadays), put Catapult in a folder with your Drop Rob-Boxes
and aliases to your drop-able applications. Then put an alias of Catapult
onto your desktop. I remove the Catapult icon (DeIcon works for me) so
only the name Catapult appears on the desktop. DeIcon just gives a blank
custom icon to selected items.
USING DROP BOXES
=================
Drop Boxes are applications (drag-and-drop utilities) which can take advantage
of System 7.0’s Apple Events. To use them, just drag a file over the application
icon just as you would drag a file over a folder to move it into that directory.
The Drop Box is then opened and processing is done. The program then quits.
You can also throw in whole directories and disks. You don’t have to throw in
just one, either. Select a whole bunch of files, directories, or disks, or any
combination of the three, and dump them in. Any aliases dropped directly into
a Drop Box (not inside a directory) are resolved by the Finder and thus their
target (parent) is used.
